Control Your Data with Medusa Cloud's Database Tooling

Whether you're looking to back up your production data, populate a staging or preview environment for testing, or enable developers with realistic datasets, having access to your data is a fundamental requirement.

With Medusa Cloud, all your data is one click away. You can export a database dump for any environment directly from the Cloud UI.

Export and import data

To export your data, go to the "Settings" page for an environment, and click the "Export" button. Once the export is complete, you will receive an in-app notification with a download link to the database dump.

Importing a database dump is equally simple - it can be done on the same page by uploading the dump file and clicking the "Import" button once the upload is complete. You can either use a database dump you exported from another environment or project, or one that you have created locally.

Realistic data in preview environments

One of the significant challenges in development and testing is ensuring that your preview or staging environments accurately reflect your production setup.

With Medusa, you can simply choose the data that you want to use as a seed for your preview environments. Every time a new preview environment is created, you will get an identical copy of the selected environment's data that can be modified without affecting the source environment.

To configure the source branch for your previews, go to the Project's "Settings" -> "Previews" page. You can either select an existing environment, or upload a dump that will be used only for previews.
