Technical Writer, DX
As a Technical Writer, you'll play an essential role in shaping the developer learning experience.
Commerce today is no longer a static, templated project. Business needs evolve faster than ever while AI and new developer tooling accelerates how quickly teams can ship new features. For this reality, companies need a commerce platform that works with them, not against them. We cater to these teams with custom commerce requirements by delivering the world’s most flexible commerce platform.
Although we are still early in our journey, Medusa has already become the leading open-source platform for developers. Our platform is constantly evolving and in the past few months we launched Medusa 2.0, which was a full modularization of our platform; introduced Medusa Cloud as our managed PaaS infrastructure offering; and released Bloom, our AI tool, that enables users to build and redesign entire storefronts using simple prompts.
Thousands of developers use our framework and tools every week to power the next wave of custom commerce. Their success starts with great documentation that helps them understand, build, and push the platform forward. That is why we are looking for someone like you.
The role
At Medusa, we treat documentation as a product. We've implemented custom docs-as-code workflows that let us innovate in how we write and build docs while ensuring accuracy for our users.
With ~30K monthly visits, ~55K queries answered by our docs AI assistant, and ~60 documentation pull requests per month, our documentation is a powerful asset for our team, product, and users.
As a Technical Writer, you'll play an essential role in shaping the developer learning experience. You'll write documentation that guides developers in building sophisticated digital commerce applications using our variety of products and tools.
You'll join our DX team, whose mission is to empower developers and deliver an exceptional developer experience.
What you will do
- Write all kinds of documentation, including conceptual guides, in-depth tutorials, platform user guides, API references, and SDK references.
- Maintain a consistent style guide across our documentation.
- Continuously improve our documentation's information architecture and content organization.
- Work closely with our engineering team to develop accurate, developer-focused documentation for new and existing features.
- Engage with our community to identify gaps in the documentation and topics we need to cover.
- Contribute to our DX strategy and advocate for developers to provide the best learning experience.
What we are looking for
- 3+ years of experience as a Technical Writer working on developer documentation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to explain complex ideas in an approachable way.
- Technical proficiency in Node.js and React, and familiarity with Postgres. You'll build many tutorials with Medusa and write about them.
- Experience writing in Markdown and MDX, and using Git and GitHub, where our documentation is hosted.
- Preferred experience or understanding of docs-as-code workflows.
- Strong prioritization skills and a proactive mindset.
Working at Medusa
We are a small team of 16 people, and we move fast.
You are expected to take ownership of your product areas and consistently deliver high-quality software.
What you get
- Highly passionate and talented co-workers
- Work with a high level of autonomy
- Incredibly complex problems to solve
- Opportunity to build a generational company
- Competitive salary based on experience and qualifications
- Generous options package, in the best 10% among peers
- Health coverage in the US
About Medusa
Medusa had its first commit in 2020, raised the first round of capital in 2021, and became the largest open-source commerce project on GitHub in 2022. Today, Medusa has a community of more than 14k developers, has over 200k monthly npm downloads, and has raised $9M in funding. Yet, we are only just getting started.
For the past few years, the team has been fully focused on developing an open-source platform with modules for core commerce logic such as carts, customers, products, and order management. In combination with our framework for customization, we allow commerce companies of all sizes to build scalable and robust applications with custom business logic living natively in their stack.
Our tools have been adopted by thousands of developers at companies ranging from the world's largest enterprises like Heineken, Mitsubishi, and SPAR to fast-growing startups such as Eight Sleeps, Material Bank, and Loyal.
What we value
Hard work: We are tackling the problems that no one else in our space has dared to. At Medusa, you’ll work hard to solve some of the most complex challenges in engineering.
Great work: We build exceptional tools so other companies can build exceptional products. Everyone in our organization is passionate about our mission and eager to deliver their best work.
Collaborative work: We help our colleagues succeed. Give candid feedback. Tell them what they did right and what they can do better. Only this way can we improve.
